Tutorial: Folded Origami Flower Ornament

A few days ago a lady named Deb came on to my Facebook page and left this comment - "sept 20, you showed pics of silver, in the second photo you had a GREAT ornament from paper.....is there any directions or a tutorial??"

Deb! So glad you asked cause now I have a good excuse to do another tutorial! Deb was referring to some pics I did to show off my vintage silver:

So pretty. :) The flower is actually really easy to make and it's technically called a kusudama. Traditionally you'd make 12 of these and glue them all together to form a bouquet. I've actually seen those for sale. :) I don't have much patience but I can tell you that if you decide to make a bouquet it goes rather quickly once you make one or two of these. Let's get started! Gather your supplies:

You know me - it's not complicated. :D Just scissors, paper and glue gun and you're ready to begin. I use book pages for my ornaments and they're rectangular. The craft requires square paper so you'll have to cut a bit off the top if you use book pages too.

Just fold it up like that and cut that extra bit off the side.

Now that you've got a perfect square you can leave them folded into a triangle - you need 5 of these for one completed flower.

Fold one side up, then the other - you want to fold everything as precisely as possible throughout or you'll get wonky flowers. (Mine ended up being a bit sloppy but I didn't mind!)

This part looks a little tricky but it's not that bad. Basically you just fold those two flaps you just made DOWN. Make sure you get the edges lined up really straight.

Open up both sides and then flatten them out.

Then fold the corners DOWN. (You're almost done!!)

Just roll the thing in on itself and glue the edges to bind.

Now make the other four and start gluing them all together!

Then take a ton of random pics while the sun is shining! (Here, it's been in hiding for a week!)

Thanks as always, for letting me in for a minute. ♥
